Attracting girls into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) higher education and career pathways is an ongoing challenge. So it's a really positive move that Danish company SmartGurlz wants to encourage girls to code through play. 

The bigger challenge is how we can ensure that this is followed up as they progress through their educational life and on into the wider world of work.

Speaking as a childhood 'tomboy', I believe we need to be more open-minded and move beyond the gender stereotypical 'doll and pink accessory' hook-in, even for children in these younger age groups.
